Dallas Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale scored a WNBA playoff-record 45 points on Wednesday, September 30, leading Dallas past the Golden State Valkyries 108-100 in overtime to even their first-round series at one game apiece. The win forces a deciding Game 3 in San Francisco on Friday night.
Ogunbowale's 45 points broke the previous WNBA single-game playoff scoring record of 42, a mark shared by Napheesa Collier, Breanna Stewart, and Angel McCoughtry. She reached the old record during regulation and kept scoring through overtime to set the new one. The signature moment came with 4.1 seconds left in regulation, when Ogunbowale hit an off-balance three-pointer to tie the game and force the extra period, then continued scoring in overtime to secure the win.
The result flips the series. Golden State had taken Game 1 of the best-of-three matchup behind a franchise-record offensive performance, putting the Wings on the brink of elimination. Dallas's Game 2 comeback keeps their season alive and sets up a winner-take-all Game 3 at Golden State's arena in San Francisco. The series is part of the WNBA's expanded first-round playoff format, which has already produced upsets elsewhere in the bracket this postseason.
