It's the last Saturday of the MLB regular season and most of the bracket is set. Ten teams have clinched, per ESPN's playoff tracker. What's left is the last NL wild card spot, the AL West and the AL Central. All three run through today's slate.
Marquee: Rays at Phillies, Philly defends the last NL wild card (7:15 PM ET, FOX)
Tampa Bay (97-63) already has the AL East and the AL's top seed locked up. Philadelphia (87-73) doesn't have anything locked. The Phillies sit one game ahead of Arizona for the final NL wild card spot with two games left, and the D-backs own the tiebreaker. So a tie goes to Arizona. That makes tonight close to a must-win at home. Griffin Jax (8-10, 3.62 ERA) starts for the Rays. The Phillies hadn't named a starter as of this morning. The Rays are 55-26 on the road, so this isn't a soft landing for Philly.
Vegas line (ESPN odds): Rays -109, Phillies -110 on the moneyline. Total 7 (over -105, under -115). Run line Rays -1.5 (+158), Phillies +1.5 (-193).
Also tonight
- Diamondbacks at Padres (8:40 PM ET). The other half of the wild card race. Arizona (86-74) needs to win and watch the Philly score. San Diego (89-71) has already clinched a spot and starts Walker Buehler.
- Rangers at Twins (4:10 PM ET). Texas and Houston are both 79-81 and tied for the AL West. Nathan Eovaldi goes for the Rangers against Bailey Ober. Texas plays first, so Houston will know the score before it takes the field.
- Astros at Athletics (9:40 PM ET). Houston's half of the AL West fight, and the last game of the night. Hayden Wesneski (5-2, 3.50 ERA) starts against a 64-96 A's team.
- Guardians at Royals (7:10 PM ET). Cleveland (84-76) leads the AL Central by one game. Both Cleveland and the White Sox are already in, so this is about the division title and seeding. Tanner Bibee faces Michael Wacha.
- Rockies at White Sox (7:10 PM ET). The White Sox (83-77) need a win and a Cleveland loss to pull even. They get the Rockies, who are 57-103.
- Dodgers at Giants (4:05 PM ET). Nothing on the line for the 98-win Dodgers, but Blake Snell pitches in San Francisco, and that's worth putting on in the afternoon.
Keep an eye on the scoreboard all night. Texas plays first, Philly and Cleveland in the middle, Arizona and Houston at the end. By midnight ET we'll know which of these races are going to Sunday.
