This is the first Sunday of the season that feels like a real season. Fourteen NFL games, a baseball slate where four playoff races are still live, a WNBA day with seeding on the line, and NHL preseason filling the gaps. It ends at Arrowhead, where the Colts get the primetime slot and the Chiefs get the points.
Marquee: Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC)
Both teams come out of Week 1 with something to prove, the Chiefs at 1-0 and the Colts at 0-1. Kansas City is short two starters again: left tackle Josh Simmons and safety Chamarri Conner are out for a second straight week, and Chris Jones is working through a calf issue, per the team's Week 2 injury report. Patrick Mahomes and Rashee Rice carry no designation. Indianapolis is thinner on special teams with Ashton Dulin ruled out and DJ Giddens questionable. The line says this is a comfortable Chiefs night. The tape from Week 1 says Kansas City's protection is the thing to watch, and a banged-up line against a defense with time to prepare is how a six-point game turns into a one-score game late.

- Green Bay Packers at New York Jets (1:00 p.m. ET, FOX). The Jets are 1-0 and nobody quite believes it yet. Green Bay dropped its opener and gets a road game at MetLife to steady things. This is the early-window game with the widest range of outcomes.
- Washington Commanders at Dallas Cowboys (4:25 p.m. ET, FOX). Both 0-1, both in the NFC East, in Week 2. A division game this early is worth more than the standings suggest, because the loser spends the rest of September chasing.
- Miami Dolphins at San Francisco 49ers (4:25 p.m. ET, FOX). Miami opened with a loss and now flies cross-country to face a 1-0 San Francisco team. Late-window body-clock games are where early-season Dolphins teams have historically struggled.
- Milwaukee Brewers at Baltimore Orioles (7:20 p.m. ET, Peacock). The Brewers are 97-58, the best record in baseball, and they get the national night window. Baltimore is playing out the string at 75-80. Watch it for Milwaukee's playoff rotation shape, not the standings.
- Washington Mystics at Indiana Fever (4:00 p.m. ET, NBA TV). Indiana is 27-14, Washington is 25-16, and seeding is what is actually on the table here. Two games separate a home series from a road one.
- Seattle Storm at Las Vegas Aces (9:00 p.m. ET, USA Network). Las Vegas at 28-13 is protecting the top of the bracket. Seattle at 8-34 is not, which makes this a late-night look at how the Aces handle a game they should win by 20.
- Carolina Hurricanes at Florida Panthers (7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN+). Preseason hockey, so the lineups are half prospects. It is still the first look at two Eastern contenders sharing a sheet of ice.
The through-line today is teams deciding what they are. The Chiefs are favored by six and playing without two starters. The Brewers have the best record in baseball and are using September to set a rotation. The Fever and Mystics are two games apart with the bracket still unsettled. None of that gets resolved tonight, but all of it moves.
